it's the near future. (well, the near past now, but this was written in the 80's) and after a nuclear war, britain has fallen under a fascist government that controls everything we read, watch, talk about and think about. non-whites, homosexuals and disabled people are herded into concentration camps and experimented on or killed. fast forward a few years later and a man in a guy fawkes mask known only as V saves a young girl from being attacked and killed by corrupt policemen and takes her under his wing. soon after an imprisoned london rocks to the sound of the houses of parliament exploding. what follows is a fantastically plotted story, taking in anarchy, fascism, revenge, freedom, corruption and redemption. this book is nothing short of brilliant, and in my opinion, even slightly better than moore's more celebrated work 'watchmen'. a scary view of a dystopian future that could conceivably happen, and a must read.
